CED Robert Frank Awards and NOF Hatton Awards
CED Robert Frank Awards Competition
This award is traditionally granted to young scientists from CED who
present original research at the annual meeting of the Division in poster
mode. The winners will take part in the Hatton Awards competition at the
IADR Meeting in 2001 as representatives of the Continental European Division.
The CED encourages junior investigators to take part in the "Robert Frank
Awards Competition" for the best scientific posters presented by CED members
at the meeting in Warsaw. Please do not forget to apply in writing and
be prepared to present your poster in Chiba, Japan on 27 th -30 th June
2001. Financial support for travelling and attending the 2001 meeting will
be provided.
NOF Hatton Awards Competition and the Colgate prizes
This award is granted to young scientists from NOF presenting original
research in poster mode. Junior investigators are encouraged to take part
in the "NOF Hatton Awards Competition" for the best scientific poster presented
by NOF members at the meeting in Warsaw. There will be two Colgate prizes
for the best posters. Colgate Scandinavia will award 3 000 SEK to the winner
and 2 000 SEK to the runner-up. The winners are obliged to present their
posters and will represent the Scandinavian Division (NOF) at the IADR
meeting to be held in Chiba, Japan 27th -30th June
2001. Financial support for travelling and attending the 2001 meeting will
be provided for winners.
General Information
On the abstract form and poster the entrant must be listed as the first
author and presenter of the abstract entered for the competition. Co-authors,
if any, should also be listed on both the abstract and on the poster. In
order to be considered for the competition, the contestant’s research must
not have been published or previously presented at any major scientific
meeting. Entrants from the Continental European Division should indicate
at the bottom of the abstract form: "CED Robert Frank Award Entry", and
entrants from the Scandinavian Division: "NOF Hatton Award Entry", and
the category of the competition for which they are entering.
In judging, the CED Robert Frank Awards Committee and the NOF Hatton
Awards Committee will consider the following:
1. Originality and design of the investigation
2. Quality of the data produced
3. Suitability of the methods of analysis used
4. Scientific value of the work
5. Quality of poster presentation
6. Demonstrated mastery of the subject
Categories of Competition
(Please note that there are major changes in the competition categories)
Junior Frank Award and Junior Hatton Award
This competition will be limited to those candidates who have carried
out their research as a part of their undergraduate / professional training.
Thus, research undertaken during undergraduate science or dental studies
or at the time of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training
as a dental student would qualify for the Junior award
Senior Frank Award and Senior Hatton Award
Entrants for this category would have carried out research as part
of a higher degree programme, either a masters or a PhD, or as part of
specialty training. Also included in this category would be research carried
out by dental graduates not pursuing a higher degree but who have graduated
as a dentist within the preceding 5 years.
Post Doctoral Frank Award and Post Doctoral Hatton Award
Entrants for this category would be candidates whose research was performed
within 3 years of the award of a PhD. Research completed by dentists who
are within 10 years of graduation as dentists, but who have not pursued
a higher degree, will also be eligible.
Grants for participants from the Baltic, Central
Eastern and Eastern European countries and Turkey
NOF Grant
NOF will offer grants to allow young scientifically active colleagues
from the Baltic States to attend the 4th CED / NOF Joint Meeting
in Warsaw. These grants will cover the cost of travel, registration and
accommodation. If you wish to apply for one of these grants, you should
send a separate letter stating your interest in receiving a grant together
with your registration and abstract form. You should also state your age
and, as proof of your research activity, have your Dean or Professor certify
your research activity in writing.
CED Travel Award
The Continental European Division (CED) of the International Association
for Dental Research (IADR) offers travel grants (at least 10 awards: 750
USD each) for colleagues from the Central Eastern / Eastern part of Europe
and Turkey to attend the 4th Joint Meeting of the CED / NOF
in Warsaw. The selection of these grants will be based on a competition
for the best submitted abstracts for a poster or an oral presentation.
A Scientific Committee will be responsible for the selection.
How to proceed?
Applicants for the CED Travel Award and NOF Grant must submit an abstract
for presentation at the 4th CED / NOF Joint Meeting in Warsaw,
according to the rules outlined in the abstract package (deadline is
March 1st, 2000), along with a letter stating their interest in applying
for the grant to the organizer of the meeting, Prof.
M.Wierzbicka.
Important Note
Abstracts without the appropriate cover letter will not be considered.
The application must also indicate if the paper will be withdrawn, if the
applicant does NOT receive the Award (if he / she wishes to do so
afterwards because of financial reasons) Otherwise, the paper cannot be
withdrawn after the review process.
For participants from the Baltic countries applying for a NOF Grant,
and from the Central and Eastern European countries and Turkey applying
for a CED Travel Award, we have a possibility of arranging low – budget
accommodation in halls. Those participants who are interested in such accommodation
are kindly requested to contact the Organizing Committee in a separate
letter.
